Hi, I’m Fiona, and at the beginning of 2015 I left my job and my life in London to travel. Indefinitely.

It wasn’t that there was anything particularly wrong with my life, I just didn’t feel like I had actively chosen it. More that I had sort of fallen into it, and it just didn’t quite fit me. I’m still not sure what kind of life I would like, but I’m hoping to figure that out as I go.

So I’m travelling and writing, and hoping to be able to support myself from my laptop by the time my money runs out! I’ll let you know how I get on.

Me, on top of a temple in Bagan.

I’ve had this blog since 2012, when I started it as a justification for my gluttony – a higher purpose for my obsessive eating around London. I reviewed restaurants, street food vendors, supper clubs and wine bars. I even dabbled a bit in my own kitchen before admitting to myself that this was never going to be my strong point. That’s still all here. Just look under Food or London at the top.

When I first told people about going travelling and blogging as I went, quite a few said “so what are you going to do about the name of your blog?”, and I did think for quite a long time about changing it. Yet aside from the hassle involved in this, and the potential stat-loss, I also felt that while what I was doing was going to change, who I was wasn’t. And the title refers to me. Basically I’m still hungry, and I’m still a Londoner. I wasn’t born there (I grew up just south of London in Kent), but it is, and always will be, my home. It’s my very favourite place in the world. I’m travelling to see if I can find somewhere, anywhere, I love as much as I love that city.

So this blog is now a place for me to share my stories, and recommendations with you. I’m a city girl, so while I might challenge myself in exploring tiny towns and villages, I’ll always feel the most comfortable in a big, dirty, capital and they’re where I spend the majority of my travel time. I love eating off the streets, finding and tasting local delicacies, and sitting, for hours, in independent coffee shops. I do a lot of food tours and cookery classes. I also love finding stylish places to stay that don’t bruise my credit card (and a few that do). I hate large, corporate hotels, and while I appreciate a bit of luxury, it is uniqueness and style I primarily look for. So if you also like any of this, then you will find plenty of recommendations here!

But more than any of this, I love meeting people. It is, hands down, the best thing about travelling solo, and I like to share their stories with you, as well as my own.

If you have questions, want any advice or recommendations for any of the places I’ve been to, or just fancy a bit of a chat, then please do email (theveryhungrylondoner@gmail.com) or tweet me (@fbarrows). I’m very friendly!

Fiona x

Occasionally I am invited to review places in exchange for their services. If I think I might like it, I will accept on the proviso I can write an honest review. There will always be a disclaimer at the bottom of posts where I haven’t paid.

If I am sponsored to produce a post I will again always disclose, and any social media shares included in the sponsorship will be tagged #sp.

I also occasionally use affiliate links, in which I get paid a small commission if you click through and then purchase something. Again, I will always make it clear when this is the case.
